El próximo 4 de enero el Gobernador de Connecticut, Ned Lamont iniciará su segundo término como máximo líder del Estado. Sabemos que en los últimos años ha recibido una ayuda federal importante para una serie de programas que tienen que ver especialmente con el trabajo y la salud. Lo cual también le ha permitido mantener la gasolina a precios razonables. Este año tendrá un desafío mayor porque los fondos de la nación serán menores y las obligaciones continuarán a un ritmo ascendente.
A la Legislatura local le espera un año de bastante trabajo, será un periodo largo, en la que deberán tratar las leyes que quedaron pendientes en las sesiones anteriores, con reclamos de la gente que ha quedado sin trabajo y los que no tienen seguros médicos para atenderse. Aún hay mucha preocupación por la inflación y la falta de vivienda.
En los últimos meses Connecticut ha recibido muchos inmigrantes, especialmente hispanos que entraron por la frontera sur, que tienen sus citas en las Cortes, y que no han sido bien recibidos por algunos Estados como Florida y Texas. También han llegado vía Nueva York o New Jersey. Todos vienen buscando una vida mejor y hay que reconocer que nuestro Estado se ha caracterizado siempre por su hospitalidad y solidaridad.
Será importante el trabajo de las organizaciones sin fines de lucro, que brindan servicios en diferentes áreas, es ahí donde muchos buscan orientación sobre migración, vivienda, salud y por supuesto trabajo.
En IDENTIDAD LATINA seguimos con el compromiso de informar sobre lo que ocurre en nuestro Estado y también servir de puente entre las organizaciones, sean estatales o privadas, con la gente que necesita saber de los servicios y oportunidades que ofrecen.

Happy Holidays and a warm welcome to 2023!
On January 4, Governor of Connecticut, Ned Lamont, will begin his second term as the state’s top leader. We know that in recent years he has received significant federal aid for a series of programs that have to do especially with work and health. This has also allowed him to keep gasoline prices reasonable. This year will be more challenging because the nation’s funds will continue to decrease, however obligations will continue to be on the rise.
The local Legislature expects a year of a lot of work; it will be a long period, in which they will have to deal with the laws that were pending from previous sessions, with claims from people who have lost their jobs and those who do not have health insurance to attend to. There is also still a lot of concerns about inflation and homelessness.
In recent months, Connecticut has received many immigrants, especially Hispanics who entered through the southern border, with appointments pending in Court, and who have not been well received by some states such as Florida and Texas. They have also arrived via New York or New Jersey. Everyone comes looking for a better life and it must be recognized that our state has always been characterized by its hospitality and solidarity.
The work of non-profit organizations, which provide services in different areas, will be important; that is where many seek guidance on migration, housing, health and of course work.
